The Dutch Community for Synthetic Cell Research

About SynCellNL

The SynCellNL community connects the leading projects and scientists from the Netherlands in the field of synthetic cell research. Our common aim is to understand how cells work by reproducing their cellular mechanism at molecular level. It is a huge interdisciplinary research effort that requires expertise e.g. from chemistry, physics, biology, AI. Additionally our community includes experts in ethics and RRI. Together we are tackling the challenge of creating the world’s first synthetic cell. Such a groundbreaking advancement holds the potential for sustainable biotechnology and biomedicine, leading to a major positive impact on society.

Any project involved in synthetic cell research is welcome to join our community. At this moment EVOLF and BaSyC are our main projects.

EVOLF is the most recent chapter in the history of the synthetic cell research community in the Netherlands. It builds upon BaSyC, the first Dutch national research programme to build a synthetic cell, started in 2017.

Our community brings together researchers from top universities and institutes across the Netherlands

Currently this initiative is led by the daily management team of the BaSyC/ EVOLF consortium.

Join our SynCellNL community

The SynCellNL community is open for new connections. Would you like to join our network of scientists, institutions and universities in the Netherlands creating synthetic cells from the bottom-up? Or do you want to add an existing interdisciplinary project in this field to our projects page? Submit your request by filling in the community form below.

If you are looking for a research position (for example a PhD or Postdoc position), discover open positions at our project EVOLF.
